Moby S.p.A.
Founded in 1985 by Vincenzo Onorato, Moby is the leading Italian company in passenger and freight transport from Italy to the islands of the Tyrrhenian Sea: Sardinia, Corsica, and Elba. Moby carries out its passenger transport activities with a fleet of 25 ships. Since 2005, Moby has also been active in port towing, offshore, and salvage services with a presence in all ports of Sardinia. The fleet of 24 tugboats represents the largest in Italy. In July 2012, through the investment in Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione (CIN S.p.A.), Moby S.p.A. and Clessidra Capital Partners Fund hold a co-control stake in Tirrenia, the leading company in the maritime transport sector in Italy. The Company was founded in 1936 in Naples. As a result of the Convention with the State, signed in July 2012, it holds the public service obligation for connections with the major islands, ensuring territorial continuity for residents in Sardinia, Sicily, and the Tremiti Islands throughout the year. Tirrenia carries out its transport activities with a fleet of 13 ships.
Clessidra Private Equity supported the company in becoming one of the major operators in the Mediterranean through buy-and-build strategies (Lloyd Sardegna, Toremar, Tirrenia) and the divestment of non-core assets.
